You, right now

Do you sometimes feel flooded by everything?

Always thinking, stressing, reacting too strongly? Maybe you recognize yourself here:

Your nervous system doesn't need to be fixed: it needs to be regulated.

The approach

Somatic Experiencing®, gently

Developed by Dr. Peter A. Levine, Somatic Experiencing® is a body-based approach that helps the nervous system come out of high-alert mode. Without having to retell your story or relive anything, we work with the body's sensations, at your own pace, to soothe overactivation, release survival responses still running, and restore a felt sense of inner safety. It is a gentle approach to trauma resolution that restores the body's natural capacity for self-regulation.

I work with women in teletherapy (distance sessions), across Quebec, Canada and beyond, with the sea as my backdrop.

High stress & inner restlessness

For those who feel overloaded, tense, "stuck in their head". Learning to come back into the body and create more space within.

Imprints of the past in the body

After an intense birth, an accident or an assault: when the body stays on alert, somatic work helps it complete what was left frozen.

Teens, after an accident or an emotional shock

When the body has healed but the spark hasn't returned. An approach that respects their pace, without making them talk it through, with parental consent and involvement.

Where does this approach come from?

Dr. Levine observed that wild animals, though constantly under threat, do not develop lasting wounds: when fight and flight are impossible, their body freezes, then naturally completes this response through discharge and trembling. In humans, this phase often remains unfinished, and the body keeps believing it is under threat. SE™ gently helps complete what was left frozen.

Born at the intersection of physiology, neuroscience, ethology and traditional healing practices, the approach has been applied worldwide for over 40 years, notably by professionals in psychotherapy, medicine and physiotherapy.

"The story doesn't need to be told. Only the body needs to be heard: it knows the way to free itself."

Sessions last about one hour, online, in English or French, at your own pace. Insurance receipts available (naturopathy & massage therapy, ANQ & RMQ, Quebec).

"When your body says: it's too much… it needs to be heard."

About

Annie, founder of AquanÊtre

Certified Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP™), hypnotherapist, perinatal educator and birth companion since 2010.

I lived in an eco-village in Costa Rica, did several retreats in Central America, worked nearly 7 years in perinatal care in Newfoundland, then another 7-year cycle in Quebec. I now practice online from the sea, aboard a catamaran.

A great adventure I share with my family.

I love seeing women in full possession of their natural instincts, in their innate power: revealing themselves to themselves, moving beyond their fears, gaining confidence. Making all spaces of Life sacred: that is what AquanÊtre is about.

Certified SEP™ (3-year training), practicing since 2021 · Somatic Experiencing® International · see my official profile

Birth work

Supporting birth, since 2010

Birth work is the cradle of AquanÊtre: doula support, HypnoDoula® / HypnoBirthing (perinatal hypnosis), prenatal and postpartum workshops, Rebozo care, Belly Binding, Yogi Baby circles and Mother & Daughter retreats. My somatic work also welcomes women for whom an intense or medicalized birth left imprints in the body, yours or your baby's.

Testimonials

In their own words

Families supported over the years.

"I liked Annie as soon as I met her! She was extremely knowledgeable yet never pushed her agenda on me. She was a great teacher and had a very calming effect during my labor and delivery. I am so glad we had Annie as our doula, I highly recommend her!"
Lisa C., second birth (VBAC)
"We can't say enough good things about Annie. She helped us work through our fears and gave us the tools we needed to have the natural birth we wanted. We fully believe that our birth experience would not have been nearly so positive without her, and we will always be thankful to her for that."
Jennifer & Tomàs, first birth
"From the moment you walked through the door, everything went smoothly, everything was much less stressful. It felt like we were completely safe in your presence. [...] You made one of the most important moments of our life… 100 times better. Thank you thank you thank you."
Terry, Jack's dad and birth partner
"Thanks to Annie, the birth of my second child was a wonderful experience, filled with peace and serenity. Even the nurses were amazed at how calm I remained throughout the whole process."
Isabelle G., second birth
"I have so much gratitude for Annie [...]. Thank you for allowing me to reconnect with my power as a woman and as a mother. Thank you for letting my daughter be in touch with this world where beauty and authenticity are cultivated."

Frequently asked questions

Before you dive in

What does a session look like?
Online, from the comfort of your home. A session lasts about one hour. We follow your body's pace: sensations, breath, small movements. No need to retell everything or relive anything. The work happens gently, in the safety of the present moment.
Do I have to talk about what happened to me?
No. That is one of the great strengths of the somatic approach: the body knows what it carries, and we work with it directly. You share only what you choose to share.
Are sessions covered by insurance?
Naturopathy or massage therapy receipts (ANQ & RMQ, Quebec) are available. Many group insurance plans reimburse them. Check your coverage for naturotherapy.
How many sessions should I expect?
Every nervous system has its own rhythm. Some people feel a settling within the first few sessions; deeper work usually unfolds over several weeks. We discuss it together at the first meeting, with no commitment.
Does this replace medical or psychological care?
No. Somatic support is complementary: it is not psychotherapy nor a reserved activity under Quebec law, and it does not replace care from a healthcare professional.
